We’re especially excited to bring you this interview with Divine Designs by Mandy. We’ve known Mandy for about a decade now, and she is a true expert + professional, and such a joy to work with!
Tell us a little about Divine Designs by Mandy.
I am Mandy Miller, owner of Divine Designs by Mandy. I specialize in wedding flowers here in Tulsa, OK. I got my start at age 17, working in a local flower shop. I started from the BOTTOM: cleaning buckets, processing stems, taking orders, and learning EVERYTHING about operating a shop. Eventually, I began designing both fresh and silk arrangements from everyday orders to funeral designs to wedding pieces. I worked hard, at a young age, for many years before I started my own business in 2009 to focus on wedding flowers only. I can honestly say that I have earned a lot of knowledge and expertise in this field and I am still very passionate about growing and serving clients every day.
What is your floral style?
My style is classic romantic with and emphasis on beautiful blooms versus greenery. I really enjoy fragrant blooms such as: roses, peonies, freesia, hyacinth, stock, baronia, and wax flower! Yes, I still “stop and smell” the roses and all the other yummy scented stems any chance I get.
What is your favorite part about designing wedding flowers?
I LOVE working with brides and grooms! It is an honor to be a part of their day by bringing their dreams and visions to life. My favorite part is seeing the look on the bride’s face when she sees her flowers for the very first time.
How far in advance should couples contact you?
I have clients meet with me anywhere from 3 months to 1 year prior to their event. The best time to book with me is when they have determined: a venue, approximate guest count, color palette, and budget.
Any tips for couples as they look for their ideal florist?
I encourage couples to do some research on prospective wedding florists prior to contacting them. They won’t be surprised to find a range of prices, but should be aware as to what they’re paying for because experience and knowledge is truly worth the investment. Look at portfolios of work, in more than one place, and read up on actual reviews and referrals. In today’s fast-paced world, it’s far too easy for eager entrepreneurs to hop on board the, “I have my own business” train and even easier to portray experience.
